KILN TYRES (RINDING RINGS)

KILN TYRE / RIDING RINGS

Design Features

Kiln Tyres (Riding Rings) are steel rings on which the kiln is supported. Depending upon the length of the kiln, generally, there are two or three kiln tyre (riding ring) stations in a kiln. The tyres in turn rest on support rollers of much lesser diameter from two sides of the shell. The support rollers are mounted on end bearings and provide the rotational force to the tyres as they are pressed against the tyre. Tyres are circumferentially fitted onto chair pads which are welded to the shell. The chair pads are machined with tight tolerances after being welded on the shells.
Tyres are of different designs but the most common of them are:
• Straight face tyres
• Bevel (Tapered) face tyres
Bevel tyres are designed with a taper to prevent the unwanted lateral movement of the tyre against the slope of taper.

Common Applications

Some common applications of support rollers are-
• Cement / Lime plants
• Paper / pulp industry
• Fertilizer plants
• Chemical and mineral/ore processing plants
• Mining industry
• Sponge iron production
• Asphalt/construction material processing plants etc.

Material of Construction

Kiln tyres (Riding Rings) are generally made from alloy steels and irons of various grades and standards. At ASHOKA we offer most commonly used grades in forged as well as cast steels depending upon the size and weight of the rings. Some common grades are as follows:
• Forged Steel- C45, EN9, EN19, EN24, 42CrMo4, 34CrMo4
• Cast Steel- BS 3100 (BT1, BT2, AW2),
• JIS G 3118 (Japanese)
• Cast Steel- GS 42CrMo4, GS 34CrMo4
• Cast Steel- IS 1030, IS 2708, IS 2644
• Cast Irons- Ductile and SG Irons
Tyres are volume heat treated to obtain the desired mechanical properties and hardness. In addition to various functional parameters the material properties are selected in accordance with the material of the support rollers to ensure least wear and tear of the tyre.

Manufacturing Capacity

ASHOKA can supply kiln tyres (riding rings) as per customer requirements and designs. Various material grades can be supplied as per international standards. We are accustomed to working with German, British, American, Indian and Japanese standards and equivalent grades can be matched to specific grades of the above standards. The following sizes of tyres can be offered:
• Maximum diameter- 8.0 m
• Casting capacity- 60 MT single piece
Tyres are accurately machined on imported Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL) of makes including FRORIEP, DORRIES, SKODA etc.
