MILL LINERS

Mill Liners are cast parts that are cladded inside the circumference of the mills as wear resistant lining between the mill shell and grinding media balls. The design of mill liners is very critical to obtain proper mill efficiency and production output. Designs of mining liners for ball mills vary depending upon the compartment/stage of grinding within the mill i.e. single stage, primary, secondary, regrind etc.
Some key advantages/features of appropriately designed mill liners are
• Optimum lifting action of the balls.
• Optimum expansion of the ball charge.
• Minimize the dead zone of the ball charge.
• Significant reduction of the wear rates of the ball and the liners.
• Minimum operating cost due to longer lifetime and no breakage of the liner plates.

Material of Construction

Depending upon the application, liners are generally manufactured out of either of the following two alloy base materials:
• Mn Steel (11%-14%)
• High Cr Steel (10%-27%)
It is recommended to use Hi Cr steels because of much higher endurance and wear resistant properties. Hi Cr liners also have high hardness in the range of 48-62 HRc depending upon the Chrome percentage.

MILL DIAPHRAGMS

Mill Diaphragms are parts which are used to separate the chambers of the mill as per design and working requirement. Improved grinding media and liners can do much for productivity but the benefits can reduce without equally efficient diaphragms. There are various type of diaphragms such as intermediate, discharge, drying chamber etc. for mill applications. These can be either slotted or blind type and they can be either cast of sometimes fabricate

Material of Construction

Special alloy steels to suit the grinding media and mill liners are used for construction including the above indicated type of Mn and Hi Cr Steels.

GRINDING MEDIA BALLS

Grinding Media used in tubular ball mills are generally spherical shaped balls or cylindrical shaped cylpebs made from special alloy steels. The media is made to free fall and collide against the material being ground due to rotational action of the mill thereby effecting the breaking/grinding action. In general grinding media is sized between 20 mm to 110 mm in diameter. Balls are of the following specifications:
• Diameter range- 20 mm to 110 mm
• Material of Construction- Hi Cr (11% to 39%) or Mn Steel
• Hardness- 58-65 HRc
• Type- Forged or Cast
• Packing- Packed in steel drums
