SUPPORT ROLLERS

Design Features

Supporting Rollers (also called Carrying Rollers) are parts on which the kiln/cooler/dryer or any other rotating equipment is supported. Depending upon the length of the equipment, generally, there are two or three support stations comprising of a riding ring tyre and two supporting rollers on either side of the equipment. Support rollers are fitted with forged shafts inside the bore, either keyed or shrunk fitted. The shaft is mounted on a set of end bearing fitted inside bearing housings. Support rollers can be supplied including complete bearing housing in fully or partly assembled condition.
• Support rollers
• Thrust rollers
Thrust rollers are have a different order of placement in comparison to the other type of rollers. These are provided to prevent any lateral movement of the rotating equipment hence the support is provided from the sides instead of the bottom.

Common Applications

Some common applications of support rollers are-
• Cement / Lime plants
• Paper / pulp industry
• Fertilizer plants
• Chemical and mineral/ore processing plants
• Mining industry
• Sponge iron production
• Asphalt/construction material processing plants etc.

Material of Construction

Support Rollers are generally made from alloy steels and irons of various grades and standards. At ASHOKA we offer most commonly used grades in forged as well as cast steels depending upon the size and weight of the rings. Some common grades are as follows:
• Forged Steel- C45, EN9, EN19, EN24, 42CrMo4, 34CrMo4
• Cast Steel- BS 3100 (BT1, BT2, AW2)
• Cast Steel- GS 42CrMo4, GS 34CrMo4,
• Cast Steel- IS 1030, IS 2708, IS 2644 etc.
• Cast Irons- Ductile and SG Irons
Rollers are volume heat treated to obtain the desired mechanical properties and hardness. The properties are decided according to the material of the support rollers to ensure least wear and tear of the tyre.

Manufacturing Capacity

ASHOKA can supply support rollers as per customer requirements and designs. Various material grades can be supplied as per international standards. We are accustomed to working with German, British, American, Indian and Japanese standards and equivalent grades can be matched to specific grades of the above standards. The following sizes of tyres can be offered:
• Maximum diameter- 2.0 m
• Weight- Up to 25 MT
• Shaft length- Upto 8.0 m
Rollers are accurately machined on imported Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL) of makes including FRORIEP, DORRIES, SKODA etc. and shafts are machined using horizontal lathes. ASHOKA has facility to turn a maximum shaft length of 8.0 m up to 2.0 m diameter.
