AIR & WATER COOLED CRYSTALLIZERS

Application

Cyrstallizers are equipment used for formation of crystals of the processing material by slow cooling of the material in presence of the seed crystal.

There are mainly broadly two types of crystallizers based on the medium of cooling which are-
• Air Cooled Crystallizers
• Water Cooled Crystallizers

Based on the type of construction these are further categorized in two types which are-
• Horizontal U Type Crystallizers
• Vertical Crystallizers

Working Principal

The basic working principal of a crystallizer is that of evaporation and successive cooling or heating of the saturated solution to form solids composed of atoms that are arranged in an orderly manner. The repetitive array leads to the formation of crystal. As explained above various types of crystals are used which work in different mediums of cooling such as water cooled and air cooled. Water cooled crystals help in faster cooling due to the passing of water through the central stirrer arrangement made up of tubes through which water is passed. In vacuum crystallizers crystallization occurs in the absence of air, that is, under a vacuum created inside the totally enclosed cylindrical trough.

The range of supply of air and water cooled crystallizers is within a processing capacity 20 MT to 120 MT.

Design Features

Crystallizers have an MS fabricated body (trough) adequately stiffened for rigidity. The troughs are either U shaped or cylindrical in shape and supported on suitable beams and/or channels. There is a central shaft made from either ERW/Seamless pipes or solid graded forging. Elliptical/Spiral ribbons are fitted with the central shaft along with compensating pads for rotational agitation of the material being processed.

Shaft is driven by a drive comprising of a planetary gear reducer and motor coupled from one end of the shaft. Cast iron housing with gun metal bush bearing & anti-frictional self aligned roller bearing are provided.
